I bought two expensive dictionaries here half an hour ago, but I forgot to take them with me.
Who served you, sir?
The lady who is standing behind the counter.
Which books did you buy?
The books which are on the counter.
Did you serve this gentleman half an hour ago, Caroline? He says he's the man who bought these books.
I can't remember, sir. The man whom I served was wearing a hat.
Have you got a hat, sir?
Yes, I have.
Would you put it on, please?
All right.
Is this the man that you served, Caroline?
Yes. I recognize him now.

forget
【源】
直接源自古英语的forgytan:for (路过,放走) + gytan (抓),意为“放某人或事走过”。
【音】
[fə'ɡet]
【义】
forget大多用作动词,而且主要是用作及物动词,表示“忘记”。
forget可以直接后接名词或代词宾语。如:
I'll never forget them.我永远也不会忘记他们。He forgot his old friends when he became rich.他发了财便把老朋友忘了。
forget如果后接动词,有两种用法:
1)forget to do(忘了要去做,但没有做)
Don't forget to turn off the light when you leave the room.你离开房间时别忘了关灯。
2)forget doing(忘了做过,已经做了)
I shall never forget meeting you for the first time.我将永不会忘记第一次见到你的情景。
【注意】
remember也有类似的用法。如:
Please remember to give me a phone call when you get there.请记住你到那儿时给我来个电话。I remember having seen someone take it away.我记得曾看见有人把它拿走。

serve
serve主要用作及物动词,表示“服务;接待”。如:
We must serve the people heart and soul.我们必须全心全意地为人民服务。The shop assistant is serving a customer.店员正在接待一位顾客。

serve有两个名词形式,即service(服务)和server(侍者;服务器)。
