送别袁隆平：“袁爷爷，我今天把饭吃光了”
5月24日，“杂交水稻之父”、“共和国勋章”获得者袁隆平院士遗体送别仪式于上午10点在湖南省长沙市明阳山殡仪馆铭德厅举行。

在悼念现场，花店老板为表达哀思免费向悼念的民众赠送菊花。他说长沙的菊花快脱销了，甚至需要从云南空运。
5月23日，湖南长沙，雨中超10万市民自发前来悼念袁隆平院士，队伍看不到头。
这一天，有免费的菊花。
有免费的接送车。
有免费的口罩。
也有很多爱心人士，提供免费的食物和水。
People have expressed their grief in their own ways, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported. A flower shop owner in Changsha provided chrysanthemums for free. Some cab drivers transferred people arriving from other places by train to the mortuary at no charge. Some who could not come had flowers delivered to the mortuary.
有一张卡片上这样写道：“这世上没有神仙，也无需立庙。因为每一缕升起的炊烟，都是飘自人间的怀念。——共产主义接班人”
倾尽一城花，只为奠一人。这一天的长沙无数细节令人看哭。
袁老最后一次“看”杂交稻
5月22日，湖南长沙，下午4点20分，运送袁隆平遗体的车队自湘雅医院出发前往殡仪馆。
大批群众自发来到位于湖南省长沙市的中南大学湘雅医院，送别袁隆平，送行队伍蔓延数公里。
应家属要求，运送袁隆平遗体的灵车，在离开湘雅医院后驶向湖南杂交水稻研究中心，让他最后再看看毕生钟爱的杂交稻。
道路两旁已聚满前来送别的市民。车辆所经之处，大家自发高喊“袁爷爷，一路走好！”
22日下午4时50分许，灵车带着袁隆平回到了他工作数十载的湖南杂交水稻研究中心，回到了他心心念念的育种基地，缓缓绕行一周，与他最热爱的事业做最后的“告别”。
When a hearse drove out of Xiangya Hospital, affiliated with Central South University, at about 4 pm on Saturday, people gathered on the roadside in the rain to see it off.
Drivers stopped their cars and sounded their horns to show respect, and people on both sides of the street cried out, 'Grandpa Yuan, we wish you a peaceful life in another world.'
