在国外想租房，就要留意房子，报纸或网站上贴着“To lease”,或 “To let”的广告，然后给中介或房东打电话，中介是leasing agent, 房东是landlord. “Do you have any apartments for rent now?” “Do you have any apartment available now?”请问有公寓要出租吗？
如果合租的人不多，没必要租house, 租apartment或flat就可以，也相对便宜，包括one-bedroom 或two-bedroom apartment, 还有一种叫studio, 工作室，就是客厅，厨房和卧室连在一起的开放式公寓， I’d like to rent a studio or a one-bed room apartment 一个人租房子，这句话最常用。
问房子多大，How big is that apartment? How many square meters is that studio? 如果你在意房子的视野，也可以问Does it have a view? View就是景色的意思，Does it have a sea view?这房子能看到海景吗？ Does the bedroom receive much sunlight?卧室采光好不好呢？
家具是furniture, 配备家具的叫furnished, 通常是desk, bed, closet，sofa这些桌，椅，柜子，沙发等，Is this studio furnished? 公寓配有家具吗？
租约是lease, How long the lease is gonna be? 租期多久？Do I have to sign for a one-year term? 我一定要签约一年吗? I live on campus now but I will move to a studio off campus next month, 我现在住校，下个月搬出来住。
Rent当动词讲是租，当名词讲叫租金，押金叫cleaning deposit或security deposit, How much is it per month? And how much is the deposit? 租金一个月多少钱？押金又是多少？
其他费用，比如水电煤气物业取暖之类，统称utilities,是不包括在租金里的，取暖费叫heating fee, 物业费是property management fee, 有线电视费是cable TV service, 网费是internet connection service fee, 为了搞清楚房租是否包含这些费用，可以问Are utilities included? 包含水电费吗？I also need cable, internet connection service, what number do you think I should call?
