Kanazawa
---by Bai Hua

Hot summer , windy autumn: That’s all Kanazawa offered?
Nougaku and crabs? That Ginkgo tree! And inexhaustible Mekkin
The centenarian playing a lass! He sat facing the universe
Small are: snail, leisure, cloudy day, rain, and night……
After “Lamp” came “Flower of Korea”. That’s a hidden Japan of older ages!
Leaving Kanazawa, Akutagawa would be thinking of Saisei……
And penning a Haiku : “Wife’s breasts sagging, Mugwort Rice Cakes”.
Notes:
Kanazawa : A city located in Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. It’s the hometown of modern Japanese writer Saisei Muro.
Saisei Muro (1889-1962): Japanese poet and novelist born at Kanazawa. “Lamp” and “Flower of Korea” are two of his well-known poems, which Akutagawa Ryunosuke loved.
Akutagawa Rynosuke (1892 –1927): Japanese writer active in the Taish period in Japan. He is regarded as the "Father of the Japanese short story" and Japan's premier literary award, the Akutagawa Prize, is named after him. Akutagawa committed suicide at the age of 35 through an overdose of barbital.
