Huang Ying won the Annual Creative Artist in Future of Today 2015 and won the Annual Fashion Artist in Fashion Power 2015. The art project with Netease for FIFA World Cup Russia 2018 at Capital Airport T3 is awarded the Real Practice Model Case of the 2019 ADMEN International Award.

Spiritual Abstraction
Huang Ying (b. Hunan, China) is an artist based in Beijing who works in varied media--video, photography, graphics, installation, sculpture, and painting. Early films include Touch (2009), which shows partial views of fingers scraping along the skin, the crushing a flower, scratching a head, all with attendant noises. In Metamorphosis I, II (2010) a woman dresses in bra and panties is attacked by dragon flies or merges with one. But it is the triangle which is nearly omnipresent in Huang’s creative efforts. It is the subject of a series of digital paintings of nested triangles. In You are so Tender (2014) each variation has its own color scheme; there are six iterations. Each triangle has its own interior linear design, and the arrangement of the colors and linear patterns produce a soaring effect. Appearing in Unlimited Temperature (2015), the geometric figure, along with the title of the work, is executed in blue and purple neon; while in 2016 Huang made a series of acrylic paintings on triangular shaped canvases with interior drawing that alternate with two rectangular canvases. She painted them with black on black surface designs, about which she wrote,

我们生活在这个世界,常常分不清什么是虚构,什么是真实。当我们被禁锢在现实的某种游戏规则之中,试图对构造这个真实提问时,我却着迷于虚拟与现实之间的灰色地带,也就是虚拟和现实相互接触相互融合的地带,虚拟产生于现实的挤压,它是我们寻找另一种自由形式的通道,也是自我拯救的过程。我们试图将虚拟形态转化为可以触摸和感知的实体,延伸到现实环境之中。这样的努力导致某种突破性的干扰,它用不同和相同的特质交融,产生一个新的共联的虚拟现实的空间,从而影响未来。黑色是我一直非常着迷的颜色,既神秘又高贵,黑色是起点,也是终点,黑色蕴藏无限可能。在《无象》系列作品中,我试图用绘画和手工的方式使黑色体现出它的物质性,而去绘画性的手工痕迹又使黑色看上去很虚幻。黑色里隐藏着来自真实世界的图像转化而来的虚拟形态结构,它们不受控制地复制变异,像一个充满致命诱惑的黑色深渊。在享受网络的加速度和在虚拟世界狂欢之时,事实上我们的个体行为和价值变成了后台的大数据,我们痴迷于所创造之物,也需警惕被之吞没。We often have difficulty distinguishing between fictions and realities in the complex real world. When we are confined to the rules of the games in the real world of which we attempt to question the structure, I am fascinated in the blurry terrain between fiction and reality. Virtual form comes out by the squeezing power of the real world which is another channel we are looking for in the form of freedom and is also a complete process to self-salvation. We can transform the virtual form into the entity that can be touched and perceived, extend it to the realistic environment. This kind of activities is the interference which leads to the breakthrough. A new virtual-reality united space will come out with the same and different characteristics and influence the future. I am always fascinated by black, which is mysterious and noble, and, is starting point and end point. The possibilities in black is infinite. The painting and manual approach that I attempt to use in the series of my work “the imageless” make the black reflect its materiality. But by removing the painting features in these manual prints make the black look unreal. The virtual form which is transformed from the image of the real world and hide in the black works is reproducing and changing uncontrolled like a black abyss with fatal attraction. Our individual behavior and values have already become the back-end data when we enjoy the network acceleration and carnival in the virtual world. We need to be mindful of that we will be submerged by the created things when we are obsessed with them.

The film begins with a view of the night sky whose stars transform into triangles that evolve into three-dimensional forms.406 In You Are So Tender, a video installation of 2016, the purple pyramid appears again on multiple screens and divides into hundreds of smaller and larger shapes. Erratic sounds—soothing and jarring— accompany the film. By 2018 the scale of a holographic installation, Thirteen Dreams, is immense. (Figure 8.12) A tsunami of triangles emerges and alternately changes into lighting patterns, wave-like inundations, and colorful fields of flowers. In an art as abstract as Huang’s, interpretations can be broad. What the import of the pyramidal form is hard to know, but the increasingly large-scale bombardment of the senses with constantly changing geometric forms, color, light and sound sends viewers into a special zone, far from normal experience and in this state of heightened sensory awareness they are open to new ideas of the universe.
