“smoke-free”到底是“允许吸烟”还是“禁止吸烟”？别被罚了都不知道
在国外，我们有时会看到“smoke-free”这样的标示牌，很多同学可能会犯嘀咕：这到底是允许吸烟呢，还是禁止吸烟？
在英文中，free有很多意思：随心所欲的；自由自在，不受约束的；当以free作为形容词后缀的时候，其意思是“没有”，所以“smoke-free area”就表示“无烟区”，也就是“禁止吸烟”的意思，等同于“No smoking”.
同样用法还有：
duty-free 免关税的
On the ship there are video lounges, a bar and a small duty-free shop.
船上有录像厅、一个酒吧间和一家小型免税商店。
sugar-free 无糖的

Are you smoking不是问你抽不抽烟？
如果老外或者有人跟你说“Are you smoking”，可要当心了，这可不是问你抽不抽烟，而是暗暗在“怼”你！
从字面意思看，“Are you smoking”表示你正在抽烟吗？但在口语中，它其实是说人傻，可以翻译为：你是不是傻？或者你脑子进水了吗？以前经常用smoking来指代吸毒，人们会开玩笑说你脑袋吸傻了吧，“Are you smoking”后来就引申为“你是不是傻？”

你是不是傻？你被他骗了多少次了。

注意，不要用can，因为会有一种质疑的语气，有点不太礼貌。
