After finishing the college entrance examination, I hesitated whether I should choose a major from my interests or a major that could benefit my future career development. I would like to choose Human Resources Management as I'm talkative and I like to keep chatting with various people, but obviously, majors like medicine are more beneficial for me to seek a well-paid job.

So I turned to my mom for help. She’s a wise woman and has already accumulated a fund of life experience. Unlike some parents, my mom never pushed me or forced me to do some stuff. She just treated me as an individual and never forced me to live someone else’s life. She suggested I choose a major which is in line with my own interests as intrinsic motivation is more long-lasting, meaning we do things because we love them and we can keep doing these things for a long period of time. But if we do something just for external rewards like money, and when there’s no other satisfaction from it, we would just stop doing it. So my mom hoped that I would follow my heart and do things that I'm truly into. Accordingly, I would therefore enjoy a better future life.
