董枫苹果中的时间、生命和境界

董枫不是一个“纯粹”的艺术家，如果要走进她的作品，必须要同时记住她另外两个身份，教师和母亲。教师的责任是引领学生进入一种境界，而母亲的角色则是孕育生命。体验境界和感悟生命，就是董枫这十四年的西西弗斯式的“无谓之劳”最终要达到的结果。

Time, Life, and a State of Mind 

in Dong Feng's Apple

Dong Feng is not a “pure” artist. When we dive into her work, we must also remember that she has two additional identities: teacher and mother. Her responsibility as a teacher is to lead students into a state of mind, and she nurtures life in her role as a mother. Experiencing this state of mind and comprehending life are what she wanted to achieve after fourteen years of Sisyphean labor.

董枫的性格在有些时候给人的印象是会在“两极”之间摆动，豁达与偏执，知性与率任，理智与激情。这种两极之间的转换，有时会在瞬间完成，给人以措手不及之感，而她却浑然不觉。正是这种性格构成的多面性，形成了她作品独有的个性特征。她对于艺术的理解方式，以及作品的形成和展开方式，都与她的这种多极化的性格特点有着直接的关系。　　

Sometimes Dong Feng’s personality seems to move between two poles: open-minded and closed-minded, intellectual and impulsive, rational and impassioned. The shift between these two poles sometimes happens instantly, catching people unawares and without her even realizing it. It is precisely this multi-faceted quality of her personality that makes her work distinctive. Her understanding of art and her ways of forming and developing artworks have a direct relationship to her multi-polar personality.

“苹果”是董枫自2005年至2018年这十四年中所创作的作品的总称。期间，经过反复的草图构成和材料、工艺实验，林林总总，作品的个体总数近万件。但是，如果从作品的整体性和时间的连贯性而言，我们又可以说她这十四年只做了“一件”作品。所以，解读董枫这十四年的创作或劳作，不能仅仅将“作品”定义为通常意义上的物质实体的“结果”。“过程性”，以及随着过程性而展开和衍生出来的各种意义，或许是董枫的作品中最有价值的部分。

Apple is the overall title for the body of work that Dong Feng made in the fourteen years from 2005 to 2018. During this time, she repeatedly drafted numerous compositions and experimented with multitudes of materials and techniques, such that Apple has nearly ten thousand parts. However, if we consider the work’s integrity and temporal continuity, we could also say that she has only made “one” work in these fourteen years. In interpreting her creations or labors over the last fourteen years, we cannot simply define it as “a work” in the usual sense, as a material object or result. The process and the meanings that are developed and derived from this process may be the most valuable parts of Dong Feng's work.
