作为万物之灵的人类，排名并不是很靠前, 只排到大约1/3的位置
mankind=人类, 不可数 /ˌmænˈkaɪnd/
crown of creation=万物之灵
这种说法是来自犹太教/基督教, 他们认为上帝创造了万物, 并且在创造完其它一切之后最后创造了人类, 而且是”God created people in his own image and likeness”
但这种说法已经慢慢脱离宗教的语境
crown本意是王冠, 它还有一个意思是最高点
比如the crown of a hill
我们还可以用crown of creation来形容某人最好的作品
Frozen is her best work, crown of her creation.
come in大家熟悉的意思是进来
但它还有许多别的意思, 其中一个意思是”成绩是, 测量结果是”
To have or finish with a particular value or measurement
比如You came in at two minutes and 30 seconds, which is a better time than your last race.
show大家很熟悉是展示, 表演
showing在这里的意思是”成绩, 表现”
the amount of success that someone or something has in an event or during a particular period
比如She had an impressive showing in the local elections.
an unimpressive showing=一个稀松平常的表现
a rather unimpressive showing=就还挺普普通通的表现
rather在这里的准确意思如下
used to mean “fairly” or “to some degree,” often when you are expressing slight criticism, disappointment, or surprise
a third of the way=三分之一的距离
down the list=沿着这个列表向下走
你可以这么理解: when you go down this list, where is mankind? At about a third of the way
注意不要误解为是在最末尾的1/3
