>Chang'e 5 set to return
The orbiter and returner combination of China's Chang'e 5 probe successfully separated from the spacecraft's ascender at 12:35 pm Sunday, according to the China National Space Administration. The orbiter-returner combination will continue to orbit the moon, and wait for the right time to return to Earth with lunar samples.
Earlier on Sunday, the probe's ascender successfully rendezvoused and docked with the orbiter-returner combination in lunar orbit.
This is the first time a Chinese spacecraft has carried out rendezvous and docking in lunar orbit.
The samples collected on the moon have been transferred from the ascender to the returner, the space administration said.
The probe’s returner is expected to land at the Si'zi'wang Banner in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region in mid-December.
If this mission is successful, it will make China the third nation to bring samples back from the moon, after the US and the former Soviet Union.
>China's economic outlook upgraded
Global chief financial officers have upgraded China's economic outlook to "Modestly Improving" in the last quarter of the year from "Stable" in the third quarter, a recent survey by the CNBC Global CFO Council showed.
The council, which gathers about 150 CFOs from some of the largest public and private companies in the world, said those CFOs responding to this quarter's survey feel more optimistic about the Chinese economy as the country is embracing a steady economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, the CFOs also have improved the economic outlook for the US, Canada and Britain from "Modestly Declining" to "Stable," the survey released Wednesday showed.
In the current quarter, Japan, the rest of Asia and the Eurozone maintained their rating of "Stable," whereas Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and Russia maintained their rating of "Modestly Declining," the survey said.
About 65 percent of the CFOs surveyed regard the pandemic as the biggest external challenge for their companies.
>'Cooling-off period' added
Under the Civil Code, which comes into effect on Jan 1, couples will have a 30-day cooling-off period after handing their divorce application to the civil affairs department. During the period, either party can withdraw the application.
Yang Zongtao, a senior official of the Ministry of Civil Affairs' social affairs department, said at a news briefing on Friday that the application system should only be used by couples who had reached an amiable agreement. Situations involving domestic violence are better served through the court system, Yang said. His remarks were directed at concerns raised by many Chinese internet users that this new rule might make it more difficult for people suffering from domestic violence to seek an end to a miserable relationship.
Wang Jinhua, director of the social affairs department, said the cooling-off period is in fact designed for couples to avoid making impulsive decisions.
"The period offers them an opportunity to give a second thought to their marriage, to think whether they have really fallen out, and whether they have properly arranged their matters afterward concerning children or other family members," he said.
>'Sanmitsu' buzzword of 2020
Japan's approach to tackling the coronavirus pandemic has become the country's buzzword for 2020.
Popularized by the Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike and known in English as the 3Cs, "sanmitsu" refers to three situations the government has encouraged people to avoid to prevent the transmission of Covid-19: Confined spaces, crowded places and close-contact settings.
The approach was adopted early on in the pandemic and has been credited with keeping cases and deaths in Japan comparatively low.
Koike received the Buzzword Award from the contest's organizer, the publishing house Jiyukokuminsha, in an online ceremony.
The top 10 candidates included Abenomask and the Go To travel campaign. The hit South Korean drama Crash Landing On You also made the shortlist.
