今天分享一首Pearl Jam (珍珠酱乐队） 的 《Yellow Ledbetter》。
这首歌来自他们2003年发行的专辑《Lost Dogs》，这张专辑收录了从1991年开始的很多他们以前专辑的B面歌曲，还有一些没发行过的歌曲，总之都是稀世珍宝。这张专辑在发行的第一周就卖出了8.95万张，并在公告牌200张排行榜上排名第15位。其实在1992年这首歌就放在单曲《Jeremy》的B面发行。当时在大学的电台播出时，引起了强烈反响。
由于大家看不懂歌词在说啥，而又很想弄明白，导致许多人讨论这首歌的标题，有这么几种推测：
其一，这是来自芝加哥 Vedder的一个他们的老朋友Tim Ledbetter的名字。
其二，来自一个古老的绕口令。你要尽可能快地说“yellow better, red better”。根据Songfacts网站上的一种解释，“只要重复几次，单词就会变得混乱，你就会得脱口而出yellow ledbetter。之所以给这首歌起这个名字，是因为歌词和绕口令一样。”
其三，这是对Huddie Ledbetter(也被称为Lead Belly)的致敬。Lead Belly是20世纪30年代蓝调音乐家的先驱，后来成为摇滚名人堂的成员，他的大部分音乐是在监狱中录制的。之所以被关进监狱，最初是因为携带手枪，后来因为在争夺一个女人时杀死了自己的一个亲戚。
第四，某人收到一封告知他的兄弟在战争中牺牲的信，而这类信通常用黄色信封发送。这个说法得到了主唱Eddie的支持，他在某次现场演出时，更改了这首歌的部分歌词：
“ don’t know whether my brother will be coming home in a box or a bag

其实，歌名只是Eddie在创作时候临时想到的一些短语组合，而且他在后来的演出中还不断调整歌词，真是难为歌迷了。
这首歌的吉他开头是对Jimi Hendrix的致敬，因为和他的《Little Wing》差不多。主音吉他手Mike McCready也因此获得了很大的赞誉，因为他可以轻而易举模仿出Jimi Hendrix的感觉创作。
他们经常用这首歌来结束他们的演唱会。在电视剧《老友记》大结局中，当Jennifer Aniston饰演的瑞秋即将登上飞往巴黎的飞机时，播放了这首歌的一小段。这是Pearl Jam公司第一次将他们的歌曲授权到电视节目中。看下乐队：
