Tell me school.

Turning millions of people into robots.

why you treat students like cookie cutter frames or snapback hats

but if a doctor prescribed the exact same medicine to all of his patients

The results will be tragic

Yet when it comes to school this is exactly what happens

this Educational malpractice

当一位老师站在20个孩子面前

where one teacher stands in front of 20 kids

each one having different strengths，different needs，

不同的天赋，不同的梦想，

different Gifts， different dreams ，

然而你却用相同的方法教他们同样的知识

and you teach the same thing the same way.

这太可怕了

That's horrific.

the defendant should not be acquitted

this may be one of the worst criminal offenses ever

I mean teachers have the most important job on the planet

yet they're underpaid

难怪那么多学生没能得到应有的教育

No wonder so many students are short change

老实说

let's be honest

我认为教师应该和医生获得同样多的收入

teachers should earn just as much as doctors

因为医生做心脏手术可以救回孩子的生命

because a doctor can do heart surgery and save the life of a kid

但一个好老师能深入孩子的心灵

But a great teacher can reach the heart of that kid

教导他们如何真正地生活

and allow him to truly live

你看，老师是经常受到责备的英雄

See ，teachers are heroes that often get blamed,

但他们不是问题所在

but they're not the problem.

他们在没有太多选择或是权利的地方工作

They work in a system without many options or rights

学校课程由政策制定者制定

curriculums are created by policy -makers

而他们中多半从没有教过一天书

most of which have never taught a day in their life

只是痴迷于标准化考试制度

just obsessed with Standardized tests

他们认为做选择题就能定义人的成功

they think bubbling in a multiple-choice question will determine Success

那十分奇怪

that's Outlandish

事实上，那些试验过于粗糙，不能使用，

in fact these tests are too crude to be used

应该放弃

and should be abandoned

但听我的不准

But don't take my word for it.

听听看标准化测验的发明者-----Frederick J Kelley 怎么说，他说

Take Frederick J Kelley the man who invented standardized testing who said, and i quote,

这些测试太过粗糙而不能使用

these tests are too crude to be used

应该被淘汰

and should be abandoned

If we continue down this road

the results will be Lethal

我对学校没有多少信心。

I don't have much faith in school,

但我对人类有信心

but I do have faith in people

如果我们可以定制化医疗保健，汽车和脸书页面

And if we can customize health care, cars and Facebook pages,

那么定制化教育便成了我们的义务

then it is our duty to do the same for education，

要更新、改造、废除学校的一些不良风气

to upgrade and change and do away with school spirit

因为那一点用处也没有

'cuz that's useless

除非我们能够努力带出每位学生的灵魂

unless we're working to bring the spirit out of each and every student

那才是我们该做的任务

that should be our task

不要再用共同的核心标准了

No more common core.

相反,深入每位学员的内心才是我们该做的

Instead，let's reach the core of every heart in every class

当然，数学很重要，

Sure ,math is important.

但是，美术和舞蹈也同样重要

But no more than art or dance

让我们给予每种天赋平等的机会

Let's give every gift an equal chance

我知道这听起来只像个梦

I know this sounds like a dream

但一些国家，像是芬兰都在做很厉害的事情

but countries like Finland are doing impressive things

他们的上课时间更短

they have shorter school days,

但是老师能赚取不错的酬劳

teachers make a decent wage

学生没有家庭作业

homework is Non-existent

他们专注于合作而不是竞争

and they focus on collaboration Instead of competition,

但这一点才让人惊讶

but here's the kicker boys and girls

他们的教育制度带来的成效比世界上任何一个国家还要好

their educational system outperforms every other country in the world.

其他国家,像是新加坡，也正快速地崛起

Other places like Singapore, succeeding rapidly.

Schools like Montessori. Programs like Khan academy.

尽管没有一蹴而就的解决方案。

there is no single solution

但是让我们行动起来

But let's get moving

因为学生尽管只占我们人口的20%

because while students may be 20% of our population

但是他们却是我们的整个未来

They are 100% of our future

所以让我们协助他们完成梦想吧

so let's attend to their dreams.

我们能完成的事情不可限量

There's no telling where we can achieve

但是我相信这个世界

This is a world in which I believe

一个不会逼迫鱼儿爬树的世界

a world where fish are no longer forced to climb trees
