一、课文原文
Lesson 46 Expensive and uncomfortable
When a plane from London arrived at Sydney airport, workers began to unload a number of wooden boxes which contained clothing. No one could account for the fact that one of the boxes was extremely heavy. It suddenly occurred to one of the workers to open up the box. He was astonished at what he found. A man was lying in the box on top of a pile of woolen goods. He was so surprised at being discovered that he did not even try to run away. After he was arrested, the man admitted hiding in the box before the plane left London. He had had a long and uncomfortable trip, for he had been confined to the wooden box for over ten hours. The man was ordered to pay ₤3500 for the cost of the trip. The normal price of a ticket is ₤2000!

二、每课一句
It suddenly occurred to one of the workers to open up the box.
注意句中的it是形式主语，其逻辑主语（即真正的主语）是to open up the box，即该句原本的顺序是：
To open up the box suddenly occurred to one of the workers.
如此一来，句子的主语相对过长，会造成整个句子头重脚轻的结果。为此，作者采用了形式主语it，把逻辑主语放到句末，这样既可以避免整个句子头重脚轻的问题，又可以突出强调逻辑主语“to open up the box”。
我们再来看一个例句：
Did it ever occur to you to ask him how he got his information?你问过他是怎么弄到那些的么？
句中的it就是形式主语，其逻辑主语是to ask him how he got his information。
有的时候，逻辑主语会是一个句子。如：
Did it ever occur to you that maybe this is none of your business?你是否想到过，也许这不是你的事儿呢？
句中的it就是形式主语，其逻辑主语就是that后面引导的句子maybe this is none of your business。

No one could account for the fact that one of the boxes was extremely heavy.
注意句中的that引导的是同位语从句，用于补充说明fact的具体内容。
英语中fact、idea、suggestion、advice、plan等词语后面常接that引导的同位语从句。比如：
It's very easy for us to run away with the idea that we can control everything.我们轻易就会误以为自己可以控制一切。
