14世纪晚期进入英语，直接源自拉丁语的famosus，意为“著名的，出名的”。

【义】
famous是名词fame（名声）的形容词，表示“有名的，著名的”，其常用的短语搭配用法主要有be famous for（因...而有名）和be famous to（为...所熟知）。如：
New York is famous for its skyscrapers.纽约以其摩天大楼著称。That football player is famous to lots of students.很多学生都知道那个足球运动员。
