人有七情六欲，其中怒是其中的一种情感，被排在第二，可想而知它是一种更为常见的情绪。相比于其他情绪，怒是具有潜在风险的一种情绪，它也常常是人们要控制自己情绪的主要原因。 虽然生气只是一种常见的情绪，但是在英语中我们可以用很多的方法来表示它，如耳熟能详的形容词 angry，irritated，annoyed，furious，resentful 或 enraged 等等，它们常与介词连用，引出引起生气或愤怒的对象或事情，例如：She was getting more and more irritated at his comments.她对他的评论越来越感到恼火。He's furious about/at the way he's been treated.他对别人对待他的方式很生气。在习语行列中也有不少表示愤怒或生气的短语，如 get sb's goat，bite one's head off，get on sb's nerves，get under sb's skin 或 in a huff 等等，例如：1.get sb's goat:That guy just gets my goat every time he opens his mouth.那家伙每次开口都惹我生气。2. get under sb's skin:Don't let him get under your skin.别让他惹你生气。3.in a huff:Don't go off in a huff like that, it was only a joke!别那么生气地离开，那只是个玩笑！Mary went off in a huff after her wife criticized her cooking.玛丽因妻子批评她的厨艺而大发雷霆。
表达生气或愤怒最常用的就是单词 angry，它常与 at，about 或 with 等介词连用，其中 angry with 后面常接人，about 常接引起生气的事情，at 既可以接人又可以接事情，例如：1. angry at/with:Please don't be angry with me. It wasn't my fault.请别冲着我发脾气，不是我的错。She was so angry at her car’s weird features.她对自己的车奇怪的样子非常生气。He's really angry at/with me for upsetting Sophie.我让索菲不安，他真的很生气。2. angry about:She got so angry about the decision on their case.她对他们在案子上的决定非常生气。Angry 经常与系动词连用，用来描述主语进入生气的状态，常见的系动词有 grow，get 或 feel 等，它还常与 make 连用为 make sb angry，意为”使某人生气“，例如：The passengers grew angry about the delay.延误使乘客气愤起来。I get angry whenever he is mentioned.提起他我就生气。He felt angry at the injustice of the situation.他对这种不公的现象感到愤愤不平。Her behaviour really made me angry .她的行为确实令我恼火。这些表达方式都是经常遇到的，还有一个结构 drive sb crazy/mad/insance，它的意思跟 make sb angry 的意思类似，意为”使某人生气或发疯等，此时的 drive 意为”迫使“，例如： All that pressure finally drove Steve crazy in the end.所有的压力最终把史蒂夫逼疯了。Leo’s constant nagging certainly drives me crazy.利奥不断的唠叨真让我发疯。The fact that I couldn’t understand what was being said in class drives me crazy.我不能理解课堂上老师所说的话，这一事实让我发疯。Drive sb crazy 还有其他形式，如 drive sb nuts，drive sb bananas 或 drive sb up the wall 等等，例如： Apologizing over and over drives me bananas.一次又一次的道歉让我发疯。These slovenly workmen drive me up the wall.这些邋遢的工人把我逼疯了。我相信类似的表达方式还有很多，这些足以让你信手拈来，在实际应用中想支支吾吾都很难。
