若我呆钝的肉体如思想般轻盈

便不会见阻于这残酷的距离

而后便可不拘这迢迢路程

不远千里而至你身侧

又有何妨呢，纵我驻足于

距你最远的天涯

思想的轻灵也能越过辽海大陆

俟有所想，而即能达

然，我却非思想--它令我窒息

能自你去后而万里相随

我不过一囊污水浊泥

只能祈求时间为我暂憩

我竟由如此的两元素结合而成

思之不胜悲泣、无数愁心

Sonnet 44

If the dull substance of my flesh were thought,

Injurious distance should not stop my way,

For then, despite of space,I would be brought,

From limits far remote,where thou dost stay.              4

No matter then although my foot did stand

Upon the furthest earth removed from thee,

For nimble thought can jump both sea and land,

As soon as think the place where he would be.               8

But ah,thought kills me that I am not thought

To leap large lengths of miles when thou art gone.

But that,so much of earth and water wrought,

I must attend time's leisure with my moan,                  12

    Receiving naught by elements so slow

    But heavy tears,badges of either's woe.

The other two,slight air and purging fire,

Are both with thee,wherever I abide;

The first my thought,the other my desire,

These present--absent with swift motion slide.           4

For when these quicker elements are gone

In tender embassy of love to thee,

My life,being made of four,with two alone

Sinks down to death,oppress'd with melancholy;           8

Until life's composition be recured

By those swift messengers return'd from thee,

Who even but now come back again,assured

Of thy fair health,recounting it to me.                   12

    This told,I joy,but then no longer glad,

    I send them back again,and straight grow sad.
