Hello, girl! I'm from China. Where are you from?
Hi, I'm from Syria a country in West Asia(亚洲). My name is Hend Zaza. Call me Zaza. I carried the national flag at the opening ceremony(开幕式). What's your name?
My name is Quang Hongchan. You can call me Quan. I'm a diver, 14 years old.
I'm a table tennis player. I'm 12 years old, the youngest athlete(运动员) at Tokyo Olympics 2020. I began to learn table tennis when I was five years old.
I started diving at the age of 7. The facilities(设施) in my first sports school was not very new, but I had a good coach(教练). He helped me a lot.
I didn't have a coach at first. My elder brother was a national player. I watched his video(视频) and wanted to be a player like him. My country was poor because there is a long-time war(战争). I don't have a good gym or a good table to practice. But I keep working hard.
I'm sorry to hear that! I hope peace(和平) will be everywhere. You are so strong-minded. Why do you want to take part in sports and in the Olympic Games?
In the past five years, I went through(经历) many difficulties: the war around me, the power-cuts(停电), the postponement(延期) of the Olympics, and not enough money. But I want to show my message(想法,信息) to people like me: Fight for your dream(梦想), regardless of(无论,不管,不要顾虑) the difficulties you are having, and you will reach your goal(目标).
What about you?
First of all, I love diving. The water is cool and the sport is cool. My family isn't very rich. I have never been to a zoo or an amusement park(游乐场). My mother was badly injured(受伤) by a car. I want to make money to help my family and treat my mother.
So you have to work hard every day, right?
Yes, I must. If I don't practice diving for one day, I will feel afraid to jump down from the 10-meter platform(跳台) the next day.
Practice makes perfect. You get good training from your coaches. I need to practice more. I want to learn from the Chinese table tennis players.
You can watch the videos of the Chinese players. You will learn a lot, I'm sure.
The good news is that the Chinese Olympic Committee (COC,中国奥委会) has invited me to have training in China.
That's really wonderful news. Welcome to China, Zaza! When will you come?
This September, if things are OK.
Maybe we can meet again soon. I will share my spicy bars(辣条) with you when you come to China. It's my favourte snack.
Haha, I can't wait. Thank you, Quan!
