She found a boyfriend, not an Italian. She went to the movie with him. She stayed out late. I didn’t protest. Two months ago he took her for a ride with another boyfriend. They made her drink whiskey, and then they tried to take advantage of her. She resisted, she kept her honor. So they beat her like an animal. When I went to the hospital, her nose was broken, her jaw was shattered, held together by wire. She couldn’t even weep because of the pain. But I wept. Why did I weep? She was the light of my life. Beautiful girl. Now she will never be beautiful again. I went to the police, like a good American.These two boys were brought to trial. The judge sentenced them to three years in prison, but suspended the sentence. Suspended the sentence! They went free that very day! I stood in the courtroom like a fool. Those two bastards, they smiled at me. Then I said to my wife, “For justice, we must go to Don Corleone.”

我常说“长句是检验语言能力一个很重要的指标”。越是多且复杂的意思,就越需要长久耐心的思考,运用高超的语言能力,将各个部分按部就班,层次分明,逻辑清晰地安排好,才能完成一条长句的创作。
影片以一位绝望的父亲开始。他为了寻求心中那份法律没有给予的正义,不惜向教父再次揭开血淋淋的伤口以获取教父的同情支持。这是一个漂洋过海来到美国的移民商人,原本能说会道的他现在已经用尽了全力不在教父面前失态,早没有余力再组织语言。因此纵观全段台词,全是简单句。但是从这些语句当中,我能感受到这位父亲深入骨髓的痛楚,从而感到震撼。
但是影片所展示的是特殊情况。而低年级同学写简单句有多方面原因的
①词汇量不足。
②语法不扎实不知道如何衔接。
③莫名其妙的降智打击,思想退化成牙牙学语的小婴孩。
④见识不足。课内的课文没学好,课外接触英语时又不上心。心中无墨自然难以下笔。
4:20-5:32教父
We’ve known each other many years, but this is the first time you ever came to me for counsel, or for help. I can’t remember the last time you invited me to your house for a cup of coffee. Even though my wife is Godmother to your only child. But let’s be frank here.You never wanted my friendship. And you were afraid to be in my debt.

①know知道;了解;认识 经过作业的强化巩固,“know”作为“知道”已经深入人心。在处理 我“认识”/“了解”他 时,往往想不到“know”。
我一直反对英语做太多作业。作业是为了学会知识吗?有一部分是,但更多的是为了考试。因此作业会无限迎合考点,学生会在这个过程中忘掉单词其他意思(用法)或者难以接受新意思(用法)。正确的做法是带着大脑去分析作业考察的本质,做三道同类型题,自己另外仿写三句做记忆理解就可以了。
②加粗的第二部分。通过分析可以轻易得出“this is the first time sb. do sth.”的句式结构,接下来仿写三句,掌握这个结构。
⑴ This is the first time I don’t want to go. 一般现在时
⑵ That was the first time they met each other. 一般过去式
⑶ Tomorrow will be the first time the boy sees sea. 一般将来时
③ Let’s be frank. 让我们坦白说吧。 非常实用的短语,可以起到转折隔断前后文的作用,强烈要求记忆附赠同意短语: Let’s be honest./ To be honest.
④名台词,长见识。
6:05-7:05 教父
What have I ever done to make you treat me so disrespectfully? If you come to me in friendship, then the scum that ruined your daughter would be suffering this very day. And if, by chance, an honest man like yourself should make enemies, then they become my enemies. And then they would fear you.
我到底做了什么让你这么不尊重我?如果你以朋友的身份来找我,那么那些毁了你女儿的人渣今天就会尝到更多的苦头。而且如果像你这样的老实人要是不走运招惹到了什么人,那这些人也就会变成我的敌人。他们就会畏惧你。
教父并不以凶狠暴力起家,而是依靠着帮助他人逐渐建立威望。起家时尚且不贪图钱财,现在又怎么会见钱眼开。这位父亲虽然绝望,但没有失去理智。如若有一丝可能,他更愿意和教父做一笔生意,然后钱货两清,再无关联。但是教父不需要钱,教父需要的是人脉,是关系网。面对坚定的教父,这位父亲最后只得屈服。
①也是电影的名台词之一。八下的现在完成时作为重点理由之一就是它与一般过去时纠缠不清。这在对错分明的考试中是难以容忍的。这时候解题思路变成了寻找关键词,而忽略了对句子整体含义的把握。最终结果就是一个无情的做题机器,而不是一个运用、掌控语言的人。
理由之二就是这个时态下动词需要变为“过去分词”(个人称其为完成式),学生不得不背新的变形并与原形挂钩。新的改变带来新的出错点。
②disrespectfully 这个单词是在respect的基础上添加前后缀修改的,修改过程如下:
respect → respectful → respectfully → disrespectfully
尊重(名/动) → 尊重的(形) → 尊重地(副词) → 不尊重地(副词)
词汇量其实是有水分的。单词中存在着“前后缀”的系统。通过在单词前后添加固定的字母组合,达到修改单词属性意思的目的。但需要注意的是,有些单词自带前后缀所用的字母,注意!
