英语俚语-Go for broke 什么意思?
又是Zimbabwe,又是前教育部長Moyo的新聞。上星期才說過。但有些俚語的確需要知道,比如go for broke.
《紐約時報》這樣說:
And so, Moyo, shortly after expressing his growing frustrations to his friend, appeared to go for broke. 所以,Moyo在向朋友表達了自己的不滿之後,決定孤注一擲。
對,go for broke就是“孤注一擲”,“全力以赴”,“豁出去了”的意思。英文解釋是:risk everything in an all-out effort.
以前是一個賭博用語,後來成爲俗語。
例句:
I’m going for broke on this hand. 這次我準備把賭注都壓上去。
Do it man, go for broke. 別猶豫了,上!
The runner went for broke at the end of the race. 賽跑運動員在最後衝刺時竭盡全力。
Sometimes you need to know when to go for broke and when to compromise. 有時你應該學會什麽時候該不依不饒,什麽時候該讓步。
很多時候go for broke和go for it可替換使用。
