It’s a very different kind of single’s day of course, in the midst of global pandemic. But what we have seen in China is that pandemic largely under control, the economy showing signs of recovering. This is really a key test for the consumers here in China as well the biggest shopping day in the world. But also what’s different about this year, it’s not just a single day for single’s day. This has been going on since November 1st, so it’s a much longer a period of time for shopping and so far we’re getting some new figures in Alibaba, saying it sets a new single’s day record in terms of the amount of transaction volume across its platform. It says 372.3 billion RMB has been transacted across its platform, way bigger than last year’s 268.4 billion yuan. As well meanwhile over on JD.com, Alibaba’s rival, they’ve seen 200 billion yuan worth of transactions across their platform, almost beating what’s happened last year. What’s interesting as well some of the trends this year, we’re seeing because fewer Chinese are going overseas due to travel restrictions at the moment, there are still high demand for foreign products and those foreign products which they may have been buying outside of China they’re now turning to these e-commerce platforms to buy and that’s really what Alibaba’s hoping to do right here this year. They said they brought 2600 new overseas brands onto the platform from this year’s single’s day, so that’s a big focus for both Alibaba and JD. Meanwhile, Alibaba focusing a lot on live stream shopping, this is a huge trend kicking off here in China, consumers watching video on their phones on Taobao and able to shop directly from those videos, so that’s a big trend as well. On top of that Alibaba also trying to expand globally, single’s day, it’s of course got Lazada over in Southeast Asia. Aliexpress, which services parts of Europe as well and Carla, the cross-border e-commerce platform that it bought very recently as well. That’s been brought into the fold for the first time this year. So Alibaba really trying to expand its reach with single’s day right here. I’ll be keeping an eye on the numbers as they come through and some of the updates throughout the day.
