The Mid-autumn Day Festival is one of the most important festivals for me and my family to celebrate. September 24 this year is the fifteenth day of the eighth month in the lunar calendar, namely, the Mid-autumn Day. It is a traditional Chinese festival for families to get together, eat moon cakes and have the mid-autumn banquet while enjoying the moon. In the traditional farming calendar, farmers reap in autumn. In ancient times, people dance and drink to celebrate the successful harvest.
Weather-wise, at this time of the year, the air is neither humid nor dry, but fresh. And the sky is pretty clear. For generations, moon cakes have been made with filling of nuts, mashed red beans, lotus-seed paste and Chinese dates, wrapped in a pastry. Sometimes a cooked egg yolk can be found in the middle of the rich tasting dessert as well. Nowadays, there are hundreds of varieties of moon cakes on sale a month before the arrival of the moon festival. It is one of the most important national public holidays for family celebration.
