The River God

Wukong stared at the river. "I shouldn’t have let Master get in the boat. But whenever I warn him about someone, he doesn't believe me."
Wujing nodded. "I'll find out where that man took our friends."

悟空看着河面。“我不应该让师父他们上船的。我每次提醒他，他都不相信我。”
悟净点头。“我去看看那个男人把他们抓到哪里去了。”

Wujing dived into the river. He soon came to a palace. A sign on the gate read Home of the Black River God.
Wujing tapped on the door with his spear. "Open up!"
The door opened, and a lizard peeked out. "What do you want?" asked the lizard.

悟净跳进了河里。他很快就到了一座洞府前。洞府门上有个标志，写着“黑水河神府” 。
悟净用他的宝仗敲门。“开门！”
门打开了，一个妖怪探出头来。“你想干什么？” 妖怪问。

"I’m looking for some people," said Wujing. "One is a monk, and the other is a pig. They were kdnapped by a man."
"They were kidnapped by me," said the demon.
"You?" said Wujing.

“我在找人。” 悟净说，“一个和尚和一个长得像猪的人。他们被一个人抓走了。”
“他们是被我抓走的。” 妖怪说。
“你？” 悟净说。

"Yes." The demon smiled. "I plan to eat the Tang Monk and live forever!"
Wujing struck at the demon with his spear. The demon spun around, blocking the spear with his tail. The force nearly knocked Wujing over. Right away the lizard was on top of him.

“是的。” 妖怪微笑着说，“我要吃了唐僧好长生不老！”
悟净用他的宝仗刺向妖怪。妖怪转了个身，用尾巴挡住了悟净的宝仗。那尾巴的力气很大，差点儿把悟净打倒。妖怪跳到了悟净身上。

"Get off me!" shouted Wujing. He shoved the demon.
The demon attacked again. Wujing swung his spear and then swam upward. He splashed out of the river and landed next to Wukong.
"There’s a demon down there," said Wujing, breathing heavily. "He's very powerful."

“放开我！” 悟净大叫。他推开了妖怪。
妖怪又打了过来。悟净挥打着宝仗向水面游去。他从水里跳了出来，落在悟空旁边。
“下面有个妖怪。” 悟净大口地喘着气说，“他很厉害。”

Wukong was about to respond when he noticed someone nearby. The man from the boat was walking toward them.
Wukong pulled out his iron bar. "How dare you kidnap our Master!"
The man fell to his knees, shaking. "It wasn't me!" he cried.

悟空正要说话的时候，突然看见附近有人。那小船上的男人正向他们走来。
悟空抽出了金箍棒。“你怎么敢抓走我师父！”
那人跪下，浑身发抖。“那不是我啊！” 他大声说道，

"I’m the Black River God, and this is my river. But the demon made himself look like me!"
Wukong put the iron bar back in his ear. "I believe you," he said. "Do you know who the demon is?"

“我是黑水河神，这是我的河。那妖怪变成了我的样子！”
悟空将金箍棒放回了耳朵里。“我相信你。” 他说，“你知道那妖怪是谁吗？”

"I don't," said the river god. He looked even more frightened now. "I heard that his uncle is the Dragon King."
Wukong laughed. "That dragon is a friend of mine. He's also a bit scared of me. I'll go have a talk with him."
A moment later Wukong was at the Dragon King's palace.

“我不知道。” 河神说。现在，他看上去更害怕了。“听说他的舅舅是龙王。”
悟空大笑。“那龙王是我的老朋友了。他还有点儿怕我。我去和他谈谈。”
过了一会儿，悟空就出现在了龙宫。

"Hello again, Wukong," said the dragon, smiling. "What can I do for you?"
"Why did you let your nephew take over the Black River?" demanded Wukong.

“又见面了，悟空。” 龙王笑着说，“来我这里有什么事吗？”
“你为什么让你的外甥占了黑水河？” 悟空质问道。

The Dragon King’s smile faded. "What are you talking about?"
"Your nephew took over the Black River," said Wukong. "And now he's planning to eat the Tang Monk."
"Oh dear," said the Dragon King. "I had no idea. I'll take care of it."

龙王的笑容不见了。“你在说什么？”
“你的外甥占了黑水河。” 悟空说，“现在他还要吃唐僧。”
“哦，天啊。” 龙王说，“我不知道啊。我来处理。”

Wukong and the Dragon King flew back to the Black River.
The Dragon King shouted, "Nephew! Come out of that river at once!"
The demon leaped from the river. "Uncle!" he said. "It's nice of you to visit."

悟空和龙王飞到了黑水河。
龙王大叫：“外甥！出来！”
妖怪从河里跳了出来。“舅舅！” 他说，“您能来我太高兴了。”

"I'm not here to visit!" yelled the Dragon King. “I’m here to take you to my palace. You will be punished."
The demon gulped. His head hanging low, he flew away with the Dragon King.

“我不是来玩儿的。” 龙王大叫，“我是来带你回龙宫的。你会受到惩罚的。”
妖怪咽了一口口水。他低下了头，跟着龙王飞走了。

With a splash, the river god appeared from the water. The Tang Monk and Bajie were with him.
"Thank you, Wukong," said the god.
"You're welcome," said Wukong. "But we still need to cross your river."

这时，河里水花四溅，河神出现了。唐僧和八戒也出现了。
“谢谢你，悟空。” 河神说。
“不客气。” 悟空说，“但是我们还是得过河。”

"That's easy," said the river god. He held up his hand. Instantly the river stopped flowing, and the water formed walls. Wukong and his companions walked across the riverbed and continued west.

“那很简单。” 河神说。他举起了手。河水立即停止了流动，并形成了墙壁。悟空一行人从河床上走了过去，继续西行。
