记单词时不要只在一颗歪脖树上吊死| Remember More Meanings

Lately, I found many fellows have doubts about the meanings of words in key sentences. Actually, it is a common phenomenon. For most Chinese learners, they used to remember the top one or two meanings. As a result, they feel confused when they come to the same word with another meaning.
最近，发现很多书友会对金句里的单词意思存在疑问。其实，这是一个常见现象。大多数国人学英语，最多只记前一种或者两种意思，最后导致自己碰到此单词以另外一个意思出现时，就开始发懵！！！
In English, we call the words as polysemy that a word has more than one meaning. And polysemy is a prevailing phenomenon in languages. As remembered, when making preparation for CET 6, once our beautiful teacher of English said that you were not as good as a farmer in Britain or America who had only 500 words, even though you had memorized 4,500 words.
在英语里，我们称此类词为Polysemy一词多义。而一词多义现象在语言中就是普遍存在的。犹记得，备考大学英语六级时美女英语老师曾说你们现在背的4500单词都不如人家美国或者英国的一个只有500词汇量的农民。
It is because the farmer could master the words well. But our knowledge is still quite limited. For example, society has five meanings at least; 1) people in general, living together in communities; 2) a particular community of people who share the same customs, laws, etc; 3) a group of people who join together for a particular purpose; 4) the group of people in a country who are fashionable, rich and powerful; 5) the state of being with other people. Commonly, we only know the first two meaning.
原因在于人家农民可以好好玩耍500单词，而我们只是略知其一，其二其三甚至后面就完全是浮云。例如，society最少有五种意思，1）社会（以群体形式生活在一起的人的总称）；2）社会（共同遵守一定的习俗、法律等的特定群体）；3）社团，协会，学会；4）上流社会；5）相伴，交往。通常，我们只知道society有社会的意思。
As a result, don’t look down upon an English word. It is of multi-function just like a mobile phone and you can ring up, send message, play games and others！
所以，就跟手机一样，可以打电话、可以发信息、可以耍游戏等，请不要小瞧英语单词！
And society is a polysemy word and acts as a noun. Next, some words can both act as a noun and a verb. For example, tear, as a necessity for Beauty Melancholy Lin Daiyu. In fact, when tear acts as a noun, its meaning is a drop of liquid that comes out of your eye when you cry. While when it acts as a verb, its meaning is to separate or cause to separate abruptly. Once, one of my younger sister showed me a paragraph. One sentence, she used “I can’t help tearing” to express “I want to cry” .
society还是同属一个词性里的多义，都是作为名词。接下来，有些单词，既能作为名词，又能作为动词。例如，忧郁美人儿林黛玉的必备品眼泪tear。但其实，tear名词是眼泪、泪水、泪珠；动词是撕裂、撕碎。有一次，一位学妹写了段话，其中有一句我忍不住哭了—I can’t help tearing。
Normally, we use “can’t help doing sth”. And at that moment, tear should act as a noun instead of a verb. And we should say “I can’t help shedding tears” here. Should I burst into laughter or cry?!
忍不住做某事can’t help doing sth，此时tear作为眼泪应放在后面作为名词，应该用I can’t help shedding tears. 看完之后不知道该哭还是笑？！
