When it comes to a performance that I enjoyed, I’d like to talk about the lion dance I watched in London's' Chinatown. I have a clear and vivid recollection of it because it was the very first time that I spent the Spring Festival in a western country. Therefore, I went to London's Chinatown on the last day of Chinese New Year along with my friends to celebrate our Lantern Festival. What impressed me the most was the lion dance, which is one of traditions for celebrating Chinese New Year, especially for lantern festival. While it is true that I've seen this kind of performance many times in China, I was still like over the moon when I appreciated the lion dance.
In fact, as a traditional lively dance, the lion dance is a familiar sight on the streets of Chinatowns during Chinese New Year celebration. It combines art, history and culture, with Chinese martial arts. We can see two dancers from the lion, one holds the lion’s head revolves the front part of the lion’s body while the second dancer forms the body and the tail of the lion. According to traditional Chinese belief, loud music can frighten away ghosts and evil spirits. Today, the lion dance is performed to usher in a new and prosperous year.
