Nicholas of Cusa, Nicolai Ivanovich Fechin (Russian: ; 1881-1955) Nicholas of Cusa, Nicholas of Cusa, a distinguished American painter, was born in Kazan, Russia, to a family of wood carvers.
One of Ilya Repin's students, he was influenced by traditional oriental paintings, such as autumn, a portrait of Canulia, and a portrait of his father. His paintings are bright in color, bright and dark contrast, strong expression, charcoal charcoal drawing head on solid smooth paper, a family of its own, carved.
His father owned a gilded, joinery and sculptural workshop where Feshin spent his childhood. After five years at the Kazan School of fine arts, he went to Peterborough and enrolled in the Academy of Fine Arts. In 1909, he painted a portrait of his father, the cabbage harvest season, for which he was awarded the title of painter and the opportunity to study abroad in France and Italy. Around the same time, he painted the portrait of the Unknown Lady, which won a gold medal at the international exhibition in Munich. After the socialist revolution, Feshin still lived in Kazan and taught at the Kazan art school.
In 1922, he contracted typhus, a disease that was exacerbated by the famine that brought on his sudden bout of tuberculosis. All this forced him to become depressed, after friends persuaded accepted the invitation to teach at the New York Academy of Fine Arts, emigrated to the United States. In his later years, his wife had left him, and he was alone in a shabby house in the suburbs of Los Angeles, and it was very sad. He became more and more aware that only in his homeland could an artist live and create. His works include the portrait of Vera Adolatskaya and the portrait of the painter Serbakov.

Nicholas of CUSA's self portraits, few of Nicholas of CUSA FESHIN's surviving works, have received little comment in Russia, and much of his work has been destroyed by war and migration, or lost in international exhibitions, his later works were mostly in private hands; he was a very gifted painter with a strong personality, who never blindly worshiped and imitated others, nor was he involved in any artistic school or organization; he inherited the tradition of Russian oil painting, to create their own unique artistic style and performance techniques.
Feshin entered Ilya Repin's studio to study at the Academy of Fine Arts. He had a high opinion of his teacher, but he had his own views on the pursuit of art. In his selection and conception, he liked to draw materials directly from ordinary life and pursue nature and truth, pure and distinctive; an exploration of a technique different from the impressionism prevailing at the time, with emphasis on the decorative, structural and unique performance of the oil painting artistic language and performance skills.
FESHIN specializes in portraiture and genre. He uses a bold, fluid pen; the image is sometimes powerfully colored, sometimes lightly brushed to create a background; sometimes a spatula and a hand are used instead of a pen; it gives a different texture to the image, and the overall color is loud and saturated; the contrast is sharp, tantalizing, like a symphony of colors, Feshin completed his artistic journey in the United States. It is undoubtedly a tragedy for him to break away from the national tradition and his native land, but his artistic achievements have an indelible position in the history of Russian fine arts.
