🌍GEO-IGCSE More | 🍜🍚🍝 Food comes first

本篇是GEO为选修IGCSE的学生准备的圣诞假期自习资料,仅供复习参考。

This article is for IGCSE students as Christmas review materials.

在开始系统回顾之前,我们先来看一个迷你的探索频道纪录片——薯片是如何生产的?

【第三课时复习时才会接触到~今天复习的是农业系统】

Before we start the food production key terms, let's enjoy a mini documentary called How it's made——potato chips/crisps.

【It's a warm-up for third review-industry, but today, the first review is with agriculture】

如果想知道更多,可以点击B站合集,知道自行车、帐篷、番茄酱都是怎么生产出来的。点击:http://www.bilibili.com/video/av3219243/

If you would like to know more about how to make a bike, tent or ketchup, why not click the link above to know more? Or you can search "How it's made" on Youtube.

授人以鱼不如授人以渔,附上可以自己去探索的链接:

Now we moves to different types of agricultural systems.

a. arable, pastorl and mixed farming

Arable is where farmers plough the land, sow seeds and grow plants to harvest. You know, stuff like corn, wheat, vegetables, soy beans and so on.

Pastoral farming involves animals. I guess you know what they might be: cattle (for meat, cheese and milk), hens or chickens (for meat and eggs), sheep (for meat and wool) and many other animals.

Mixed farming is combining the two.(Fig 8-10)

b.subsistence and commercial farming

Well, you can always find wikipedia in easier explanation of difficult definition into easier words. For example:

Subsistence agriculture is self-sufficiency farming in which the farmers focus on growing enough food to feed themselves and their families. The output is mostly for local requirements with little or no surplus for trade.

If you eat all the products, then it is susbsitence farming. If the products are mainly for sale, then it is commerical (Fig11-12). The latter is always connected with large scale and modern machinery.
