So they took him to the infirmary

Where they try to turn a man into a mouse
All of Rubin's cards were marked in advance
The trial was a pig-circus he never had a chance
The judge made Rubin's witnesses drunkards from the slums
To the white folks who watched he was a revolutionary bum
And to the black folks he was just a crazy n****r
No one doubted that he pulled the trigger
And though they could not produce the gun
The D A said he was the one who did the deed
And the all-white jury agreed
Rubin Carter was falsely tried
The crime was murder "one " guess who testified
Bello and Bradley and they both baldly lied
And the newspapers they all went along for the ride

To see him obviously framed

1974年9月，飓风鲁宾·卡特在狱中出版了自传《第十六回合》（The Sixteenth Round）。正如鲁本所说，文字的力量是巨大的，胜过拳头。这本书出版后，鲍勃迪伦前往监狱探望了卡特，他坚信卡特的无辜，之后专门创作了这首《Hurricane》声援卡特,歌词讲述的是迪伦认为的真相。
1985年，在入狱将近20年后，在许多人的友情帮助下，美国联邦法院对此案进行重新审判，取消之前的判决，将卡特释放。仇恨监禁了鲁宾·卡特二十年，最后让他获得自由的是爱。
这首歌也促成了电影《Hurricane》，从第一次听到鲍勃·迪伦的歌曲《Hurricane》开始，导演伯恩斯坦就非常看好卡特的故事，后来当他得知了故事的全部，认准这是拍成电影的绝佳素材。在得到电影拍摄权之后，伯恩斯坦请来编剧丹·戈登(Dan Gordon)来共同改编剧本。影片于1999年上映，丹泽尔·华盛顿饰演飓风卡特，演技令人惊叹。
而鲁宾·卡特本人，赋予这段二十年的冤狱经历新的意义。从1993年至2005年，鲁宾·卡特担任了冤狱辩护协会常务董事，致力于帮助冤狱受害者。
2014年4月20日，鲁宾·卡特于加拿大多伦多的家中去世，享年76岁。
