It's not really surprising since Google has so much more resources. Google started their self-driving car program around the same time that Uber was founded, so it's not surprising that they are ahead of them in R&D.

It's certainly not good news for Uber since their business model seems pretty dependent on this self-driving technology to drive down costs.

The Uber self-driving car requires the human passenger to take control of the car every 1 mile? I think they're a little farther away from cutting out the drivers than they want to be.
