诗人胡续冬诗歌《小小少年》英译
2021年8月22日下午，诗人、北京大学外国语学院副教授胡续冬（1974年10月-2021年8月）在北京去世，终年47岁。

从满月起，你不羁的睡眠
就开始像贪玩的羊群一样，
需要我挥舞着蹩脚的歌声，
驱赶它们从火星上的牧场
回到你永动机一般的小小身体里。
Since you were one month old, your carefree sleep
Has already become a flock of playful sheep.
I can only use my off-key songs
To drive them back to your little body, a perpetual motion machine
From the pasture on Mars.
我成了你忠实的牧睡人。
我牧睡，每天两到三次，
唱着同一首叫做《小小少年》的歌，
“小小少年，没有烦恼
眼望四周阳光照……”
I thus become the loyal shepherd of your sleep.
I tend your sleep, two or three time a day
By singing the same song named “Little Boy”.

我已经完全忘了情节的德国电影，
确切地说，是西德电影，
《英俊少年》。出于一个丑男孩
对“英俊”一词的莫名纠结，
我满怀敌意地记住了它英俊的旋律。
This song comes from a German film
Whose plot I have completely forgotten.
To be exact, a West German film,
Heintje: Once the Sun Will Be Shining Again.
An ugly boy’s entanglement with the word “handsome”
Makes me hostilely bear its handsome melodyin mind.
没想到三十多年后，地图上
早已没有了东西德之分，这首歌
却会被变得更丑的我
用来召唤你松果体上狡黠的褪黑素。
I didn’t envision, over three decades later,
On the map, there’s already no West Germany nor East Germany.
However, this song is used by an uglier me
To summon the smart melatonin on your pineal body.
日复一日，我唱着《小小少年》，
把睡眠的羊群赶进准确的钟点。
我仿佛看见一个又一个的英俊少年
牵着你未来的手和你畅游花花世界。
那时，又老又丑的我，
或许会唱着《小小少年》
放牧我自己颤颤巍巍的睡眠。
Day after day, I sing the song of Little Boy,
To drive the sheep of sleep to the exact hour.
I seem to see handsome boys one after another
That hold your future hands and enjoy the gay world.
By then, I will be aged and ugly.
Maybe I will sing Little Boy again
To tend my own tender sleep.
终于，在你一岁以后的某一天，
你突然厌倦了所有的小小少年
和他们的英俊，你只想
听我丑陋的声音随便讲个故事入睡。

挥舞着陈述句和象声词的牧睡人。
Finally, one day after your first birthday,
You suddenly got tired of all little boys
And their handsomeness. What you wanted only
Was to fall asleep to my ugly voice of telling whatever story.
I once again became your loyal shepherd of sleep
Who repeated his narrations and imitative words.
但我竟有些怀念
那些怀抱你的褪黑素起舞的
小小少年，怀念那个
在1980年代的小镇电影院里
对着“英俊”二字黯然神伤的
小小少年。
But I still miss the “Little Boy”s
Dancing around your melatonin.
I also miss the little boy
Who felt depressed with the word “handsome”
In a cinema of the small town in the 1980s.
诗人简介：
胡续冬，本名胡旭东，1974年出生于重庆，1981年迁居至湖北，1991年考入北京大学，先后在中文系、西方语言文学系（现为外国语学院）求学，2002年获文学博士学位后留校执教于北京大学外国语学院世界文学研究所，后为北京大学外国语学院世界文学研究所副教授，巴西文化中心副主任。曾在巴西等地客座任教，2008年入选美国爱荷华大学“国际写作计划”，参加过西班牙科尔多瓦国际诗歌节、荷兰鹿特丹国际诗歌节、英法诗歌节等文学活动。出版有诗集《水边书》《日历之力》《终身卧底》《旅行/诗》《片片诗》和随笔集《浮生胡言》《胡吃乱想》等，另有译诗、译文散见于各类书刊选集。曾获刘丽安诗歌奖、柔刚诗歌奖等奖项，部分作品被译为多国语言。2021年8月22日逝世于北京，终年47岁。
