一首著名的英文诗，曾经写道:
I m no body!
who are you？
Are you no body？
中式英语，翻译过来就是：我不是人!你是谁？你也不是人吗？
这样翻译，真心醉了，狗屁不通啊！小学老师看到了，表示没教过你这么个学生！
其实，“I m no body “的英文翻译，完全是因为“中式英语”给我们挖的大坑……

'I m no body '，正确含义是“无名小卒、小人物”。开头那篇英文诗的翻译就是：
我是无名小卒，
你是谁？
你也和我一样籍籍无名吗？
这样翻译后，读起来是不是有意境多了？
说到“no body”，不得不说一说“somebody”。“I m somebody”，不是“我是某某人“的意思。实际上是“大人物”意思！
“big potato”，也同样表示”大人物“。举一反三，小人物也可以说成“small potato”。
例句：
I m no body .However，I never give up my  dream.
我是一个小人物。但是，我从来没有放弃我的梦想。
He used to be a worker. Through the selection, he became somebody finally.
他过去是一个工人。通过选拔，他最终成为了一个大人物。

“big potato”表示大人物，英语中也经常用“potato“表示各种“标签化”的人。
“hot potato”表示“难对付的人，烫手山芋”。“hot”在英文中，表示“烫、辣”的意思，不单单表示“热”。比如麻辣烫就翻译为“hot-hot-hot”，又麻、又辣、又烫！
“Couch potato”可不是沙发土豆。“potato”表示土豆，“种在沙发前的土豆，一动不动”，意为“电视迷，懒汉”。
例句：
The abortion issue is a political hot potato in the United States.
在美国，堕胎议题是一个政治烫手山芋！
Some US researchers have been looking at novel ways to increase the level of activity among those with 'couch potato' lifestyles.

“the clean potato”，“clean”表示“干净、洁净”。表示“正派的、规矩的人”，也可以指“正确的事情”。

讲完了“body”和“potato”，拓展讲下“第三者”、“伴郎”、“钢铁侠”英文怎么说？
第三者，英文才不是“the third person”，那是强调“第三个人”的意思，完全不搭尬！正确表述是“the other man/woman”，意思是夫妻中的多余人。
“best man”，字面意思是“最好的男人”。英语中还能表达为“伴郎”的含义，当然，伴郎还可以用固定单词“groomsman”表述，音标是[ˈɡruːmzmən]。
 “iron man”不是“铁男人“的意思，正确翻译是“钢铁侠”。有趣的是，“iron women”不是翻译为“钢铁女侠”，而是翻译为“铁娘子”。
在英国首相“撒切尔时代”，“the iron women 铁娘子”，就是指撒切尔夫人。
例句：
Their marriage broke up because of a third party.
因为第三者，他们的婚姻破裂了。
He is the best man of my wedding.
结婚的时候，他是我的伴郎。
