严培明（1960年生于上海），中国最有才华的油画家之一，以一系列黑色碳熏质感人物肖像享誉艺术界。八十年代他远赴欧洲，现定居巴黎。

Yan Pei-Ming is a Chinese painter born in 1960 in Shanghai. Since 1982 he has lived in Dijon, France. His most famous paintings are "epic-sized" portraits of Mao Zedong worked out in black and white or red and white. He works with big brushes, and his paintings are brought to life by the rapid brush strokes which structure the picture space.

我是一个没有理想和野心的人

绘画是很难的，因为这语言太古老了，大家都懂一点，你要是没有自己的特点和想法很难出来。装置是属于观念的东西，狡猾一点多半可以做成。我确实是以一个孤儿、流浪汉的身份和形象出现在世人面前的。这种生活上的‘漂流’带给我的是一个独立思考、发现自我的环境。在这样的环境里，我才能实现一种创作上的自由，发展我自己独一无二的语言。艺术家要靠自己的观点、手法、语言在画布上说。
