As one of the 14 coastal open cities in China, Dalian is an important coastal port city of Liaoning Province. It’s the second largest city of Liaoning Province and the largest port city of Northeast China. Dalian boasts superexcellent environment. In 2009, Dalian received the ultimate award as the international garden city given by United Nations Environment Programme and IFPRA.

Location
Dalian is located on the east bank of Eurasia and in the southernmost point of Liaodong peninsula in Northeast China, which is on the verge of the Bohai Sea in the northwest and faces the Yellow Sea in the southeast. It borders upon Japan, Korea and Russian Far East area, which is an important gateway of Northeast China, North China and East China at sea.
Biological Resources
Dalian enjoys moderate climate and superior natural ecological environment, which is suitable for the growth and living of plants and animals. Dalian has relatively abundant biological resources, including about 4,850 species of invertebrates and 765 species of wild vertebrates. Each year, a large number of festivals are held in Dalian City, such as Dalian Fireworks Affairs, Dalian Chinese Scholar Tree Blossom Affairs, Dalian Import and Export Commodity Fair, Dalian Cherry Blossom Festival, Dalian Software Trade Fair, China International Beer Festival, Dalian Sand Beach Culture Festival, Dalian International Fashion Festival, China International Marathon Invitational Tournament and Hot Spring and Skating Festival.
Best Time to Visit
The tourist peak season of Dalian is from late May when Dalian Chinese Scholar Tree Blossom Affairs and Dalian Export Commodity Fair are held. It ends up in early September when Dalian International Fashion Festival is held. During this period (late May to early September), Dalian is crowded with visitors from home and abroad. September and October are the best periods for seaside angling in Dalian. In winter, ice lantern fairs are held in Bingyugou valley.
Weather Condition and Packing Tips
The famous summer resort Dalian enjoys the North Temperate Zone monsoon-type continental climate, which is the warmest region in Northeast China, with the annual average temperature of about 10℃. The hottest month is August with the average temperature of 24℃, and the coldest month is January with the average temperature of -5℃. The minimum temperature may reach about -21℃. Most of the rainfall concentrates in summer.
Winter lasts from late November to early March in Dalian with the minimum temperature of -14 to -17℃. Visitors need to bring down jackets, sweaters, gloves, pants, cotton trousers and cotton trousers to keep warm. Spring lasts from March to May in Dalian with the average temperature of 15℃. Wearing jackets, sweaters, long-sleeved T-shirts and pants is necessary in spring. Summer lasts from June to September in Dalian with the highest temperature of 30 to 32℃. Thus, you need to prepare T-shirts, short-sleeved shirts, shorts, skirts, sandal, sunbonnet and sunglasses. Autumn lasts from late September to early November with the average temperature of 16 to 20℃. Jackets, thin sweaters and pants are enough in autumn.
