(George Gordon Byron 1788-1824)
When all around grew drear and dark,
and reason half withheld her ray,
and hope but shed a dying spark,
which more misled my lonely way.
--George Gordon Byron
Stanzas To Augusta
02
which strove to blacken o'er thy ray-
then purer spread its gentle flame,
and dashed the darkness all away.
Stanzas To Augusta
03
Oh, blest be thine unbroken light!
that watched me as a seraph's eye,
And stood between me and the night,
for ever shining sweetly nigh.
--George Gordon Byron
Stanzas To Augusta
Thy soul, though soft, will never shake.
there is a rapture on the lonely shore,
there is society, where none intrudes,
by the deep sea, and music in its roar:
I love not man the less, but Nature more.
07
just gave a sigh to other times,
and found in busier scenes relief.
08
Extinguish'd, not decay'd;
As stars that shoot along the sky
shine brightest as they fall from high.
My altars are the mountains and the ocean,
Earth-air-stars,
all that springs from the great Whole.
Who hath produced
and will receive the soul.
--George Gordon Byron
Don Juan
10
是纯粹的欢愉;
a deep and mellow dye,
Which scarce the shade of coming eve
can banish from the sky,
Those smiles unto the moodiest mind
Their own pure joy impart;
Their sunshine leaves a glow behind
That lightens o'er the heart.
你的声音,似流水之韵;
with a magic like thee;
and like music on the waters
或在暗蓝波涛中跃动;
or bounding o'er the dark blue wave;
The cumbrous pomp of Saxon pride
accords not with the freeborn soul,
Which loves the mountain's craggy side,
and seeks the rocks where billows roll.
Fortune!
take back this name of splendid sound!
Place me among the rocks I love,
which sound to ocean's wildest roar.
