Some families cannot afford burial expenses or are unsure of what to do, according to Dina Maniotis, executive deputy commissioner of the office, the Journal reported.
The trucks are parked outside an emergency morgue at the 39th Street Pier in the Sunset Park neighborhood of Brooklyn, which was set up in April when deaths from the virus skyrocketed.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo addressed the issue on Tuesday saying the loss of life 'frightens' him. 'Eight hundred people died on one day. The emergency rooms and hospitals were like battle zones,' he said. 'We ran out of cemetery space and in New York City, they were burying people on Hart Island.'
