今天共读莎士比亚《亨六》第三部第五幕，出现了跟弥尔顿《失乐园》最著名演讲相似的一段独白。(《亨利八世》即将开读｜莎士比亚：如何安全地谈论最危险的议题？》)

《失乐园》中，撒旦和同党天使们反抗失败后，被关入地狱，众天使士气低落，认为这一失败就是永恒的折磨。撒旦鼓舞士气说道：What though the field be lost?我们这次战斗失败了又怎样呢？All is not Lost，他继续说，其实我们并没有什么都失去！我们不屈的意志还在，我们的仇恨和复仇的勇气还在，等等等等。这段话太出名，导致每个英语专业的学生都必须背诵……很多很多文学学生和老师心目中，这段话，就是弥尔顿，弥尔顿，就是这段话。

弥尔顿是英国最伟大的诗人之一，《失乐园》发表76年前，弥尔顿前面一位英国最伟大的诗人莎士比亚，写了这样一个场景：亨利六世的王后玛格丽特，带领部队跟篡位的爱德华四世火拼，输掉了一场战役，她鼓舞士气道：What though the mast be now blown overboard, /The cable broke, the holding-anchor lost。what though……lost的句型，让人第一反应是：咦莎士比亚怎么能抄弥尔顿呢？玛格丽特继续说：输了这些又怎样？我们不能这样灰心丧气的！我们的部队不还在吗？要积极地、鼓起勇气，打回去！
