很显然，这是一首颜色歌，小朋友歌唱颜色，歌唱活力，曲调优美，歌词简洁，非常动听。歌词里最值得注意的就是something blue、something red、something yellow、something purple这几个不定代词something后加形容词的结构，我把它们翻译为“蓝的什么”、“红的什么”、“黄的什么”、“紫的什么”，因为something本意“某事、某物”，这里当然是指“某物”，说成“什么”，可以算是恰如其分。
something构成的这几个词组，有两种音步类型：something red、something blue，都是总共三音节、倒数1、3（其实也是正数1、3）音节重读，这实际上是抑扬格，只是没有继续往前展开；something purple、something yellow，都是总共四音节、倒数2、4音节重读。这种音步称为”trochee“，又称”choreus“，并不多见，跟抑扬格iamb搭配使用，是一种有益的补充。
