Matthew 很喜欢「thousands of could have done betters」这样的写法,把动词、短语小句用作名词,书中还出现了:
- These are my sights and seens, felts and figured outs, cools and shamefuls.”
- Getting away withs, getting caughts, and getting wets trying to dance between the raindrops.
- They all heavily protested my evacuation, but I had no choice. Time for goodbyes instead of see you laters.
- Honest first impressions were a thing of the past. That check had been cashed.(今夕不同往日,回不去了)
- Well...I'd like to put some Wite-Out over that last conversation.(Wite-Out 是涂改液,这里是说刚才说的有不恰当的地方,想撤回)
- Good looks don't cook the dinner, but they'll get you a seat at the table, and I was determined to take advantage of any seat I could get.(颜值不一定能当饭吃,但颜值高一定容易混饭吃)。
书名叫 Greenlights 有很多寓意,除了讲自己的故事,我想他最想传递的信息是:有些事情无法避免,但既然已经发生,我们就要学会接受和应对——Navigating the autobahn of life in the best way possible is about getting relative with the inevitable at the right time.
他说自己天生乐观——I have a lot of proof that the world is conspiring to make me happy. The arrow doesn't seek the target, the target draws the arrow.
