After reading me books every night since I was about two, my mom opened a children’s book store. I still remember the day I stepped into the warm, lovely place, sunshine glowing on the bookshelves, and I smelled the scent of books.

(adv.) 自从
since+时间状语从句,表示自从……以来。
Ever since, since then=from then on, 表示从那时起。
I got my first job in 1973 and I’ve been working ever since. 1973年我得到了我的第一份工作,从那时起,我就一直从事这个工作。
stepped /stept/
(vi.) 踏,迈,走
stepped是step的动词过去式,step into,踏入
I stepped out of the building and immediately a bullet whistled past my head. 我一迈出大楼,一粒子弹从我头上呼啸而过。
scent /sent/
(n.)香气

(conjunction 连词)
尽管…但是…,汉语中,尽管……但是……连用,但英语中表示转折,句子中只需出现一个连词,即用了although, 后面就不能用but。
He decided to go, although I begged him not to. 尽管我恳求他不要走,但他执意要走。

(vt.) 后悔,遗憾,抱歉
regret doing sth.后悔做过某事
regret to do sth. 后悔要做某事
I have always regretted not having studied harder at school. 我一直后悔上学的时候没有更努力。

devote (oneself) to (doing) sth.投身于某件事
注意to后面是动名词形式。
He devoted his life to serving his family, friends, and neighbors.他一生都奉献给了他的家庭、朋友和邻居。
proud /praʊd/
(adj.) 自豪,骄傲(褒义)
be proud of oneself/sth./doing sth. 为某人/某事/做某事而骄傲
I'm so proud of being a Chinese. 我为自己是中国人而感到无比骄傲。
