首先来看标题：

Tom Hanks tests positive for coronavirus
在这个非常简短的标题中包含了两个非常重要的知识点。
第一个是动词test的用法：
一种是我们最习惯的用法，例如一名医护人员test blood samples意思是指“对血液样品进行测试”，对应的就是医护人员在化验室里面进行测试的那个场景画面。
另一种就是类似标题中的用法，Tom Hanks作为患者自己可以发出test这样的一个动作，表达的意思就是产生一个结果/produce a result，即测试的结果。
后面positive就是指测试结果呈阳性。如果假设测试结果是阴性，那就是用negative表达。
这里测的并不是他血液当中有没有毒品成分，而是针对某种疾病或者某种病毒。用法就是for + 具体的病毒或者疾病的名称，当然这里指的就是冠状病毒/coronavirus，这也是标题涉及的第二个重要知识点。
coronavirus开头的corona原本的意思是欧洲中世纪国王或者皇后的皇冠，上面有很多伸出的触角。后来随着自然科学的发展，科学家通过望远镜去观察太阳表面的时候，看到的“日冕",即不断往外喷射的高温高速气体，英文叫corona，也是借用“皇冠”的名称。
再到后来显微镜发明之后，科学家在观测一些圆球状的病毒中发现其表面和皇冠一样有突出的触角形状，所以就把它名为coronavirus，中文就是“冠状病毒”。
我们再来看文章的第一段：

3月11日，好莱坞巨星汤姆·汉克斯宣布他和妻子丽塔·威尔逊确认感染了新型冠状病毒，当时两人正在澳大利亚参与拍摄巴兹·卢尔曼的一部未命名的猫王电影。（据悉，汤姆·汉克斯将这部猫王传记片中饰演猫王的经纪人汤姆·帕克。）
句子很好理解，但要注意novel coronavirus中的novel并不是指“小说”，这里作形容词表达的意思是“新颖的，新的”。
另外，更关键的是我们要掌握contract这个词的用法。如果查词典，你会发现contract可以表示“合同”、“收缩；缩短”还有文章这句里“感染（某种疾病）”的意思。
其实单词很多中文意思往往都是其最原本含义的延伸，就像有一条主线一样把它们串起来。 
contract开头的词根con表示“在一块儿”，后面的tract则有“吸引”之意，所以contract最原本的含义就是“把不同的东西吸引到一块儿”的意思。
那原本两家没有联系的公司通过一纸合约走得更近，这就叫“合同”。两个人走得近了，之间的距离缩短了，contract也就理所当然能表示“收缩；缩短”。
再看文章这里表示“和疾病走得很近”，所以contract也能用于表达“感染（某种疾病）”的意思，即contract an illness/contract a disease。

The actor Tom Hanks said on Wednesday that he and his wife, Rita Wilson, have the coronavirus.

Mr. Hanks and Ms. Wilson, both 63, are in Australia, where he was set to film a movie about the life of Elvis Presley. “We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches,” the Academy Award-winning actor said in a statement. “Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers, too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the coronavirus, and were found to be positive.”

Bringing the rapidly spreading global pandemic home to Hollywood in a dramatic way, Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson announced Wednesday that they have tested positive for the coronavirus.

In a statement relayed through their representative, Hanks said the two contracted the illness in Australia, where the actor is currently filming Baz Luhrmann’s untitled Elvis Presley biopic, in which Hanks is playing Presley’s manager, Colonel Tom Parker. Hanks and Wilson are both 63 years old.
